This capstone course integrates key concepts and skills in medical coding and billing, focusing on the evaluation of healthcare documentation for accurate coding and treatment justification. Students will assign diagnostic and procedural codes for inpatient and outpatient records using an electronic health record system. The course also includes developing professional career materials and conducting information interviews with industry professionals to broaden career insights and networking opportunities. Additionally, students will explore reimbursement methodologies and compliance practices essential to effective healthcare coding and billing, equipping them for successful entry into the workforce.
